Acessories, Suntec, 280706

Hamzah (?)

It was hard to miss Hamzah, an instructor and choreographer with the illers, showing off his toned arms, absolutely oozing confidence; most of all how he obviously loves to accessorise. It was such fun chatting with him that we forgot the interview proper! When asked about the tag on his shoe, he replied "Nowadays, even shoes need accessories!"

Paree Paree, NUS, 280706

Michelle (21)
"I love Adidas jackets. I have twelve of them, all Adidas Originals. I usually get them from the Adidas Orginals shops. As for footwear, I never wear sandals!... Okay, maybe open-toed sandals that are like shoes, but you will never see me in flip-flops! I feel uncomfortable in them as my feet look too naked."

There was just something wonderfully whimsical about the combination of the "Paris" jacket and those shoes.

We are the homey Homies!

The title of this post is a tongue-in-cheek response to Slate's article on street fashion, in which The Clothes Project has been mentioned. Go check out the article.

***

The Clothes Project will be featuring guest photographers from next week onwards. I will be away from 24th July till 16th August and friends have kindly agreed to cover for me during this period. The guest photographers are:

  • J
  • L
  • Denise

It'll be interesting to see what people with different perspectives (and who hang around in different parts of Singapore) will shoot!

The Ones K Forgot to Interview, Baybeats 2006, The Esplanade, 160706, Part 3

Denise (23)
"Electrico is damn catchy! Lunarin... isn't quite my thing. The Astreal chick is hot though. How old did you say she is again?

My fashion taste? Eclectic mix and match. And Converse shoes go with everything. I put together that outfit for the night because I wanted what I was wearing to match my classes, so I was thinking green. :)

I think Baybeats was very well organised. In addition, the bands that performed really showed maturity, as each had a distinct sound of their own. It was also really good to see the young Singaporeans out in full force giving their support to local music!"

I was having way too fun talking to Denise about the bands performing that night and forgot to ask about her ensemble. However, I think it speaks for itself.

*EDIT: Denise has kindly sent TCP her commentary on her outfit and so here it is!

? (?)

I'm sorry, I was too overawed by this chap's glasses. (Click on the picture to view the details better. They are really quite amazing.)

Baybeats 2006, The Esplanade, 160706, Part 2

Liyen
"This dress is from the Oppt Shop at the Heeren. When I saw the flamingo print, I knew I had to get it!"

Kiki (16)
"I am currently studying in Singapore. I think the trends here are very different from those in China at the moment. The crowd here (at Baybeats) are alright in terms of fashion, but I think you can see better dressers at Orchard."

Gerhardine (23)
"This shirt is from a friend. I thought it was quite appropriate for the event as I have always been a keen supporter of the Arts. By the way, the same friend also bought me the watch I am wearing for my birthday even though she hated it. And yes, I do play music."

June (19)
"I got this shirt from Far East. From a shop named 2100, I think. I'm alright regarding David Bowie. He hasn't been producing much music lately though. But I thought his last album wasn't too bad."

It's always nice bumping into a fellow Bowie fan.

Baybeats 2006, The Esplanade, 160706, Part 1

Ami (26)

I didn't get to interview this lady much as I was enjoying the banter between her and her friends. Contary to what they might say, Ami reassures me that her hat is definitely not ten years old.

Hust (18+)
"The jacket was torn up by my friend. We were pulling at each other's jacket and it just tore!"

I was standing behind Hust on the escalator and I just couldn't take my eyes off it. I stalked the poor boy until we reached a flat area where I immediately pounced on the chance to take shots of him. Also had a pleasant time talking to his friends and finding out more about the strange happenings which occurred on the previous two days of Baybeats.

Ping (36)
"I am just here to catch a friend who is performing in a band tonight. The band is Etcetera. Er, I meant ETC. Another band I will be catching is The Posies."

In case you're wondering about the strange pose she has in the first picture, it's only because she was worried about her pendent reflecting the flash from the camera. I really appreciated that.

Shannon
"My mum taught me how to dress! Most of what I am wearing are hers. The necklaces are hers and she crocheted this cardigan. I got the dress from the Zouk flea market. They don't sell much, but if you dig, you can find good finds."

Shannon surprised me when she informed me that not only has she heard of TCP, she is also a friend of Stacy who was featured on TCP earlier in June.

Bryo (18)
"I get my t-shirts from Far East. Sometimes, I also wear girls t-shirts... I think this is a girl's top."

Mira (22)
"I don't usually wear caps. I am wearing it tonight because I don't like my hair."

As much as I have a soft spot for headgear, I would like to point out that Mira looks just as swell without the cap. I think her hairdo is equally awesome!

The Unexpected, Parco Bugis, 140706

Yivan (25)
"Singaporeans are bad dressers? Who said that?! I've been seeing a lot of well-dressed people recently!"

I think Yivan's comment will delight many Singaporeans. What I like about her outfit is her method of layering to suit Singapore's hot sunny weather and the unexpected touches of colour and details as shown above. (She was also wearing a dark red necklace which my camera, unfortunately, failed to capture well in the first photo.)

For the curious, her black shirt is from Miss Sixty and her bag, Southaven.

That Forever 21 Dress, Far East Plaza, 110706

Yen Ni
"This dress is from Forever 21. Yes, that Forever 21. I've just came back from the States as it's the holidays now. As for street fashion, I would say that it is more or less about the same in US and Singapore. You know, shorts and bikinis. Maybe it's because it's summer. But maybe you don't see that much bikinis on the streets of Singapore."

Orange Lady, Paradiz Centre, 090706

Mae (51)
"I am dressed like this because it's a Sunday. Comfort is important to me. Sometimes I even wear sari and Vietnamese suits! I love to wear bright colours to perk up. But I try to avoid pink for work. These days, too many people are wearing dark colours. Even the young girls. All the browns and greys and black."

Today was one of those days where the TCP crew despaired due to the lack of interesting outfits out on the streets. It had been raining the whole day and everything was grey and wet or drab. When we saw this madam, you could see our faces lighting up.

"Maad Sunday" market, Red Dot Museum, 020706, Part 2

Iiru (23)
"I usually get my stuff from chinatown or from overseas. This pearl necklace is from Chinatown!"

Yi Lian (23)
"I wanted to wear a dress today but I just cut my hair recently and I didn't think it would go with the dress. So I wore shorts instead! But I wanted something different and decided to add the vest as well. This outfit is made of pieces from Pedder Red, Topshop, Mango and flea markets."

Candy & Bobby

We had so much fun at Candy's stall we forgot to ask for her name or other questions. In fact, we had to google to find out her name. This woman has a fantastic sense of humour. Try deciphering the naughty message she is trying to convey to you in the first photo! TCP is looking forward to her rambutan shirts. You can find out more about Bobby (and Candy) here.

Pamela (19)
"I got this skirt from Bangkok. It was one of the roadside stalls? I was passing by and it just attracted me to it."

We can see how the skirt attracted Pamela's attention. We were walking towards the MRT and her skirt stopped us in our tracks. Literally.

"Maad Sunday" market, Red Dot Museum, 020706, Part 1

The Maad Sunday market has officially opened! It celebrates original designs and is held every sunday at the Red Dot Museum. You can find out more here.

Daphne (30)

“I chose this outfit because it’s really hot today. The top is from Malaysia and the rest of the outfit is from around. I am not a fan of expensive stores and usually shop at heartland areas or JB. I think my style is more of the quirky chic? Most Singaporeans don’t like to experiment because of the stares so most stick to the spaghetti top and jeans combination. But I think there are still small pockets of people who dare to dress different.”

Polka dots and stripes! And the unexpected stripy corsage! Oh my!

Grace (23)

“I just got these boots back from a friend. They were with her for a long time so I thought I should wear them out. I just wear anything I want.”

I think one can see exactly how spontaneous this spunky lady is. Upon commenting on her stripy socks, she immediately volunteered to remove her boots so that we can take better pictures of them, much to our utter delight. Grace has just graduated and TCP wishes her all the best in job-hunting.

Christina (16)
"This is my first time wearing this pair out. I like boots and tend to want to collect all kinds. I also tend to ignore the PCK boots remarks."

Danial (21)
"XOXO!"

TCP has no idea what Danial is trying to communicate to us either.

Post-it

Ah, apologies. Haven't been feeling too well, hence the lack of updates last week. New updates coming up in a jiffy and a mini project that might involve you. Yes, you.
