It's Thursday again...

Time really flies. There are photos to upload and quotes to type, but there are only so many hours in a day. So, here's a quick post-it post to distract you (and myself) before I head back to work.

Remember, remember, it's the twenty-fourth of November...

This weekend's Fash Bash event may have been pushed back to 15 Dec 07, but there are still reasons for joy. We have received news that the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations has decided to set up a monthly Waterloo Bazaar at 96 Waterloo Street. The first will be held this Sat, 24 Nov 07, from 10am - 6pm.

SCWO will also be opening their thrift store during the bazaar. Double the treat! I have always wanted to go down to their store again, but it opens during weekdays and very briefly at that (10:30am - 2:30pm). If you like the thrill of a Hunt, this is one store you should visit.

Peace Guy & Equestrian Lady*
"We are part of the Singapore Scooters and have dressed up to attend an opening event. In fact, we just came from the event and are waiting for the other members... Is she (Equestrian Lady) wearing a riding helmet? Yes, she is. Girls in Japan wear the same thing when they ride their scooters. It's a fashion thing."

*Both names are fictional because yours truly forgot to ask.

The Black Market, 111107

"Actually, this is not my dog. He belongs to a friend."

The friend in question is Candy, the quirky mastermind behind White Dog Bobby. However, the handsome fella in the picture is not Bobby, but Hungry.

Serene
"I didn't know I had so many colours for my pieces... so I decided to showcase the colour swaths as a necklace and it has turned out to be more popular than I expected. People have been coming up to me and asking if I had similar pieces for sale. One lady even ordered for an exact replica."

Serene is one of the trio behind t43 who make their jewellery by hand. It's pretty amazing when you consider the intricacy of their pieces. Necklaces consisting of acrylic swirls and whorls that have a butter smooth finish around their edges and Chinese calligraphy burnt on paper-thin gauze pleated to resemble flowers. Their website is a little bare at the moment, but it does list places where you can find their work.

Rage
"We (The Proletariat Poetry Factory) were inspired by Before Sunrise. Have you watched the movie? No? There's this beggar in it. But rather than begging for money, he write poems in exchange for money. We're something like that."

This is how the whole process goes:
  • Provide a word/term to a poet.
  • Provide a name (optional).
  • Stand back.
  • Watch the poets' fingers fly across the typewriters.
  • Notice the poets are plugged to headphones and the music may or may not be provided by 2 guys (armed with one mixer and a guitar) beside them.
  • Wait.
  • Receive poem.
  • Donate.
They churn out pretty good stuff.

Where on earth is Carmen Sandiego?

Well, if she pops by our little island this coming weekend, she's in for a treat. Here's a brief listing of places to be, see and be seen this weekend.

17 Nov 07
  • A little bird sang that a "Garage Sale" is happening at 301 Jalan Bukit Ho Swee. Not just any garage sale, but one with items coming from the wardrobes of fashion insiders. We are talking about Jimmy Choo, Sass & Bide, Betsey Johnson and the likes. Click on the thumbnail below for more information.

  • The 'A is for Andy' exhibition. Surely you must know of it! The 2-day exhibition will be held at 72-13 Mohamed Sultan Road, from 10am to 10pm. Culture vultures should not miss this one.
  • Space-to-party.com has kindly invited TCP readers to their launch party at Martini Firm. If you're into DJ battles and winning Limited Edition Air Force Ones, drop them a message.

18 Nov 07

  • Zouk Flea n' Easy. From 2pm to 7pm. Nothing else needs to be said.

Pictorial updates coming up!

Flea Carnival @ Spa Boutique, 281007

Apologies for the recent lack of updates. Real-life matters beckoned and I had to answer. Hopefully, I will be able to attend some of the events that are posted on Fashion is Spinach and Fashion Nation. That said, many thanks to L. for being a good friend and making the effort to attend the recent flea at Spa Boutique for TCP. The following photos and commentary are by L.. Enjoy!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought the flea signage was creatively mounted :p

The flea carnival was set in a very quaint garden-resort setting with beautiful lil huts in the midst of vegetation that flanked a bustling Orchard Road. The atmosphere was tranquil and almost zen, if one ignored the bargain capitalism that quietly hummed in the background.

A hum, because inspite of the stalls selling pretty cool merchandise, there was a thin crowd that milled around. Nevermind though, because that means more bargains for me!

I always say; the other draw of a good flea is the good people. Every one I've been to has greeted me with gorgeous people with equally gorgeous personalities. Thanks everybody for being such a sport, despite the dampness from the heavy downpour.

Always nice to see people comfortable. :D

Who doesn't love pringles?

Say "Hello!" to Dottie and Stephie from Fashion Nation! I love their shoes.

Funny flea-goers doing what they do best - bargain, chatter, and do the let's-see-if-this-fits boogie routine. The lady in white was selling that lovely song&kelly top for only $20 :O!

Wardrobe Raids, St James Power Station, 071007

Evelyn & Natalie
"There was this girl who told us she bought a second-hand monogram LV bag from a vendor behind us for $200. We are selling ours for $80. Erm, are we asking for too little?"
The bag in question is the yellow Epi leather Petit Noé beside Evelyn.)

"No, I didn't make the dress. I bought it at Black Clover, Far East. I think it's opened by an ex-editor of CLEO."

SeptFest Gig, Girls > Boys, 220907

Audrey
"I got these frames from a shop near NAFA. They are imported, one of a kind and were priced at $90?"

How much do I love her glasses? Far too much. In case anyone else needs a pair of funky frames at an affordable price, this is the place to go: 122, middle road #01-18,Midlink Plaza

Many thanks to Audrey for emailing the address!

"When I made the brooch, the paper clips swung all over the place and was often lop-sided. So I added the beads to balance them out. The pin balanced out, but the clips still swung all over the place. So I added the knots to limit the amount of space for movement... The clips still swing all over the place."

Honestly, I prefer the messy, clips-all-over-the-place look her brooch had when I first saw it. Nevertheless, the brooch has a tongue-in-cheek feel to it.
